Romanticism for beginners and advanced

We must admit that real Romantics easily may feel fine here. But also all those who hide otherwise their tender sides well, will certainlybe enchanted. Probably nobody can avoid the magic of our 4-stars hotel within the two Renaissance houses, directly on the most wonderful town square of Austria. In our hospitality - cultivated since generations - lies the charm of the hotel. Get to know Steyr of its nicest side and plunge into the world of a real 'historical hotel'.
Historical atmosphere
Our 60 rooms are accommodated in the different parts of the buildings. Attractively and good-quality cosiness is emitting also the restaurant of our hotel: the rustic 'Altwirth Stube', the elegant 'Schubertstüberl' and a worth seeing wine cellar. During the summer season you can enjoy open-air-dining in our arcaded courtyard or in the 'Schanigarten' on the much vaunted town place.
300 years of tradition

1694 Johann Altwirth received the official "host authorisation" and therefore the permission to accommodate and to entertain travellers and locals. Before that the house has been destroyed several times in case of fires and fights in the Middle Ages. The today's building stock was built at the beginning of the 16th century in the early Renaissance.
1819 Franz Schubert spent some summer months in Steyr and he already appreciated the hospitality here. He was taken not only with the charm of the scenery. Inspired by the beauty of the landscape he composed the piano sonata in A major and, at least, the not quite unimportant 'Trout Quintet' should have been the result of these nice summer months.
1936 the house became our family´s property. The Schweinschwaller family, the grandparents of Hans Mader jun. led the hotel through difficult times. In 1965 the family began to develop the “Inn to three golden roses“ during next three decades and the Hotel Mader has been originated by the additional purchase of the neighbouring house.
1998 the family Mader jun. has taken over the guidance for the coming years finally. So it was once more time for a change: First of all the restaurant was completely renovated and in 2002 the "Vinothek" and the "wine bar" were adapted.
